The BASE Building, located at the heart of Manchester’s innovation district and part of Europe’s largest clinical academic campus, is a standout project developed by Bruntwood Sci-Tech. With a £21 million investment and spanning 91,000 sq ft, the building is designed to support cutting-edge research and sustainable practices. A key feature of the building’s design is its ability to operate at net zero carbon in the communal areas, which is central to its environmental goals.
LDL played a critical role in this ambitious project, delivering an advanced lighting solution that met both aesthetic and sustainability criteria. Despite a tight timeline, LDL responded to the challenge, with Floor 1 lighting completed just three weeks after the initial inquiry. The entire lighting installation was finished two months later, fully aligning with the contractor’s program.
The lighting design incorporated the latest generation of energy-efficient LEDs, contributing to the building’s sustainable design. A standout choice was the Millie linear luminaire, designed and manufactured in the UK by LDL. This versatile luminaire system, featuring state-of-the-art LED technology, was customised in a bespoke RAL colour to match the building’s design and aesthetic vision.
